旧富山県立農学校本館「巖浄閣」
The Toyama Prefectural Agricultural University building was designed and built by the Tonami City temple/shrine carpenter Sukenojou Fujii. The University itself was established in 1894 thanks to then Ishikawa Prefecture Representative Iwao Shima’s contributions and was named Ganjoukaku in honor of him (the name shares kanji with Iwao Shima’s name). Due to the history and significance of the University, the building was designated as a important cultural property in 1997. Some interesting features of the building include the roof center and decorations, the decorated front entrance and genkan, and a semicircular transom (artistic wooden beam usually above an entryway) among other things, making a building full of western designs in the architecture.
